Looking forward, then moving forward!

As we are now looking forward and moving forward into lent we turn to Paul's letter to the church of Philippians and we immediately see on of the traits of Jesus Christ in him. The trait of humility we see as Paul opens admitting that he is still on the course and not above the church or God but in the midst of it. We see this same humble nature in Jesus, Jesus who is God , Jesus who Angles bowed before, decided to become human, take on flesh and have to eat, drink, walk and be tempted. All of this just to be beaten, stabled, and hung on a cross for our sake. That's being humble. It's amazing how we have the audacity to be conceited or cocky and stuck up, we need to learn from Jesus example, Paul's example. Our first lesson for lent should be to walk humbly with Jesus in our wilderness as we are tried, tempted and go without as he did. Today let's be quite and humble ourselves so that we may hear God speaking calling us to finish the race moving strongly forward, no longer just looking.
Philippians 3:12-16 (NRSV)
Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us then who are mature be of the same mind; and if you think differently about anything, this too God will reveal to you. Only let us hold fast to what we have attained.

Loving God help us to be humble in our hearts realizing that you are the only one who can create, therefore only you can be prideful. Enable us to love one another and lift each other up. This is our prayer so that we may grow in relationship and understanding with you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
