Jesus, the calm in the midst of the storm

If you have watched the news over the last week then chances are that you have heard about the Carnival Cruise Ship Triumph that has been adrift in the Gulf of Mexico. abc top stories I am a fan of cruising, I mean I love to take cruises. Therefore I am thankful that all of them have been very entertaining. I can not even imagine how worried and frustrated it must be for the passengers aboard the Triumph. The only correlation I could even equate is the text from Matthew chapter 8 where Jesus calms the storm.

Matthew 8:23-27
(NIV)

Jesus Calms the Storm

23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

This passage always reminds me not of Jesus power as God but also of Christ love for us. Knowing how frightened the disciples had to be he woke up, reminded them to rely on their faith to get them through the rocky times and calmed their situation bringing about peace. Yes God is still that good to us, reminding us to keep the faith and trust in Christ. So that our daily situations can be calmed and we can have peace also.  Whatever you are going through today on land or at sea know that Jesus can calm all of the storms in our lives! Thanks be to God, that Jesus is the calm in the midst of our storms?

Be Well, P.J.
